PERIODONTAL TREATMENT OF GINGIVAL OVERGROWTH DUE TO AMLODIPINE USE: CASE SERIES

Aim: A common side effect of calcium channel blockers, which are frequently used in the treatment patients with hypertension and cardiovascular problems, is that they can cause overgrowth gingiva. Gingival overgrowths should be treated because create inaccessible areas, making oral hygiene practices difficult due to increased plaque retention. In this case series, clinical properties gingival deriving from usage amlodipine, a type blockers its protocols explained.
 Methods: Three male aged 15, 60 45 applied our clinic complaints bleeding. anamnesis, it was learned were using antihypertensive medication containing amlodipine. first session, scaling root planning applications performed. Then, who given detailed instructions, consulted relevant physicians. It deemed appropriate replace drug another drug, an alternative does not lead overgrowth. After controls performed at certain time intervals evaluations, observed perfect recovery achieved. addition these, gingivoplasty classic surgical method under local anesthesia on one case.
 Results: All three showed uneventful healing without any complications. During periodic controls, patients’ disappeared, gingiva regained their natural physiological form, aesthetically pleasing results achieved, no recurrences 6th month periodontal health could maintained.
 Conclusion: The protocol for use includes replacement or discontinuation current physician's consultation, after initial practices, procedures regular severe cases.
